South East Queensland (SEQ) Regional Plan (under review)
The Queensland Government is committed to developing new regional plans that cover every corner of the state. They will work with infrastructure plans that protect the lifestyle of our communities, appropriately cater for growth, and improve planning partnerships.
These regional plans will also work with the 'Securing our Housing Foundations' plan to deliver one million new homes by 2044. The key to achieving this outcome is integrated land use and infrastructure planning.
Currently, we are reviewing the South East Queensland Regional Plan and Infrastructure Plan to respond to changes in legislation and policy as well as significant population growth and development in the region.
The focus of the review is on housing, employment and the economy under the key state interest areas in the State Planning Policy 2017:
- housing supply
- agriculture
- development and construction
- mining and extractive resources
- tourism
- infrastructure.
We have commenced early work on reviewing the plans. Early feedback was sought between December 2025 and July 2026 as part of the review’s initial stages. You can subscribe for updates on the process, including to be notified when formal consultation opens.
Growth Monitoring Unit (GMU)
The Growth Monitoring Program (GMP) (now the Growth Monitoring Unit (GMU)) was established under the 2017 regional plan for South East Queensland (ShapingSEQ 2017) and continues under ShapingSEQ 2023. The GMU monitors land use and development activity in the region to track the performance of key ShapingSEQ regional plan policies, including the progress of land supply and dwelling growth targets to help address supply challenges.
