Wide Bay Burnett Regional Plan (under review)
The Queensland Government is committed to developing renewed regional plans that cover every corner of the state.
Renewed regional plans will be contemporary, fit-for-purpose integrated land use and infrastructure plans, focused on supporting housing delivery and jobs where they are needed.
Each Queensland community and region has unique strengths, opportunities, identities and lifestyles, and every part of Queensland contributes to our state’s success in its own way.
That’s why our planning approach is not one-size-fits-all—we recognise these differences and tailor strategies that build on regional strengths while respecting local values and priorities.
Real success lies in every Queenslander being involved in shaping how their region grows and changes.
Review purpose
The Wide Bay Burnett (WBB) Regional Plan is currently undergoing a streamlined review with an emphasis on housing supply and economic growth.
Informed by Local Government, the review is looking at the current dark sky provisions, streamlining policy, mapping, implementation, and will provide clearer guidance for plan-making and development assessment.
The Wide Bay Burnett (WBB) Infrastructure Plan will be included as an appendix to the regional plan and is being developed alongside the streamlined review.
Public consultation on the draft WBB Regional Plan (including infrastructure plan) will occur during the statutory notification period, which is planned for 2026.
Approach
The revised approach is for the WBB Regional Plan to be shorter and more targeted, focusing on critical areas such as land use, housing supply, and economic development.
This approach includes feedback gathered from Local Governments and State Agencies since the review process began at the start of 2025 to provide a clearer, more actionable framework for the region.
Infrastructure addition
A draft WBB Infrastructure Plan is being developed alongside the WBB Regional Plan review.
The draft infrastructure plan will include medium to long term regional infrastructure policy.
This marks a shift from the guidance provided in the WBB Infrastructure Supplement 2023, to enable infrastructure policies to be embedded within statutory planning frameworks.
The WBB Infrastructure Plan will replace the WBB Infrastructure Supplement 2023.
