Planning overview

Queensland's planning framework continues to evolve as our state grows and changes.

The state government is always looking at ways to streamline planning approvals, accelerate jobs and growth, make state and local governments more transparent and give our communities a greater voice.

We plan for:

  • Our economy

  • Our communities

  • Our environment

What is planning?

Planning aims to manage how cities, towns and regions grow or change, in a way that benefits the public interest. It's about better outcomes for people, places, the environment and the economy.

How does planning work?

Queensland’s planning framework is made up of three main systems: plan-making, development assessment and dispute resolution.

State and local governments share the responsibility for delivery and operation of these systems.

Planning as a career

Planners play a vital role in helping shape our communities now and into the future.
